In a heartwarming event that celebrated dedication, integrity, and excellence in journalism, three media professionals from Sikkim were honored at a prestigious awards ceremony held at a prominent hotel in Deorali, Gangtok.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the “Ram Patro Memorial Award for Excellence in Journalism 2024–25” to Puran Tamang, the editor of Summit Times. The award recognized his long-standing and impactful contribution to journalism in Sikkim, where he has consistently championed truth, accountability, and community-centric reporting.
Kushahang Liwang, a respected journalist known for his dynamic reporting and commitment to ethical journalism, was presented with the “Best Working Journalist Award 2024–25”. His tireless efforts in covering grassroots issues and holding institutions accountable were acknowledged as exemplary.
Suman Rai, an employee of Sikkim Express, received a Letter of Appreciation in recognition of his dedicated service and consistent support to the functioning of the media house. His behind-the-scenes contributions were lauded as vital to the day-to-day operations of the publication.
The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries. Dr. Indrahang Subba, Member of Parliament, attended the program as the chief guest and congratulated the awardees for their unwavering dedication to journalism. MLAs Kala Rai and Dile Namgyal Barfungpa were present as special guests, lending further significance to the event.
