Darjeeling, May 19: Stating that Sudhan Gurung deserves justice, the group Justice for Sudhan Gurung has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the attack case involving him. Under the banner of this group, a meeting was held yesterday at the GDNS Library Auditorium in Darjeeling to rally support for Gurung.
The event saw participation from representatives of various political parties and organizations. Speaking on the occasion, Deepika Gurung said, “We don’t feel the investigation into the attack on Sudhan Gurung has been impartial. There’s manipulation going on, and even the administration is under pressure.”
She pointed out that though the medical report mentions injuries from a sharp weapon, the police have claimed it was caused by an 18mm rod, suggesting a possible cover-up. “There’s foul play here too. The public won’t stay silent anymore,” she added.
Deepika stated that when the accused were arrested, it was clear from their faces whom they were affiliated with. “Sudhan Gurung is not someone who won’t be easily silenced. He is fighting selflessly and fairly,” she said. According to her, social media users have also pointed out that the two people repeatedly threatening Sudhan are linked to those arrested.
Further criticizing the investigation, she said, “The police station did what they had to do, but it feels like they were pressured from somewhere. If evidence like the weapon can be tampered with, who knows what else will be manipulated in the future. That is why we are demanding a CBI investigation,” she emphasized.
In the same context, Bikram Adi Rai also spoke and made it clear that they would not let this case weaken. “We are ready to go to any level for justice,” he said. Referring to a recent controversy in West Bengal where the job security of 25,000 teachers was affected by a single petitioner, Rai questioned, “Why is a deadly attack carried out on a petitioner seeking justice?”
He continued, “Among 313 teachers, anyone who believes they meet the required qualifications is free to challenge the matter in court. The ones who meet the criteria will keep their jobs; those who don’t will lose them.”
It’s worth noting that on the evening of May 8, Sudhan Gurung was the victim of a brutal attack near Super Market. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
