Justice for Sudhan Gurung: Group Vows to Approach Calcutta High Court

Darjeeling, May 15: The “Justice for Sudhan Gurung” group, representing Gorkha Sewa Sena, has pledged to take the matter to the Calcutta High Court if the two accused in the Sudhan Gurung assault case do not receive the punishment they deserve. Speaking on behalf of the group, Vikramaditya Rai emphasized that they are determined to ensure justice for Sudhan and will not let the case be brushed aside.

Rai stated, “It’s been too long — we won’t let this case fade away. We will push for strict punishment.” He recalled how candlelight marches were held in Darjeeling when injustices occurred in Kolkata, and posters regarding events in Delhi would be found all over Darjeeling. “But when someone who stood up to challenge the corruption in our education system becomes a victim, it is time our society wakes up,” he said.

He further claimed that the truth is always suppressed in Darjeeling, and warned that if society does not wake up now, it will be a grave mistake. “Sudhan Gurung is fighting not just for himself but for the youth of the hills,” he added.

Calling it one of the most crucial issues facing society, Rai questioned the role of political leaders, saying, “Should we have to write letters asking them to show up? If democratic values are being silenced and truth is being strangled, it is the society itself being suppressed.”

He called on political leadership to take responsibility and raise their voices in support of justice. Rai also said that if the accused are found guilty but not punished according to the law, they are prepared to go to the Supreme Court and even write to the Ministry of Home Affairs if necessary.
