Sikkim: 19 candidates caught for cheating during NVS Non-Teaching Recruitment Exam

19 Candidates Caught Cheating in NVS Non-Teaching Recruitment Exam in Gangtok Using Hidden Devices

19 candidates nabbed for cheating in exam.

Gangtok, May 20, 2025 — In a major crackdown on exam malpractice, 19 candidates were caught cheating during the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) Non-Teaching Recruitment Exam 2025 held in Gangtok, Sikkim. The incident took place at the Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, where alert invigilators discovered the use of concealed electronic communication devices by the candidates.

According to officials, the majority of the accused hail from Uttar Pradesh. Of the 19 caught, 17 men have been arrested, while two women have been issued legal notices as investigations continue.

Authorities believe this could be part of a larger, organized cheating racket. “We are treating this as a serious breach of exam integrity. Preliminary findings suggest coordination and external assistance through advanced hidden devices,” a senior police officer said.

The Sikkim police, in collaboration with central agencies, have launched a deeper probe to uncover the full extent of the operation, identify potential masterminds, and track the origin of the equipment used.

The NVS has also been informed and is expected to take strict administrative action, which could include the cancellation of the exam for the center or even a wider re-examination if the breach is found to be widespread.

This incident has raised serious concerns about exam security and the growing use of technology in organized exam fraud.
