A 19-year-old student from Ghum, Darjeeling, has successfully climbed Mount Everest as part of an all-girls team from the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
Pratima Rai, a political science student at St Joseph’s College, was the only female cadet chosen from Bengal for this important mission. She was one of 19 cadets selected from across India after a tough selection process that started in September last year. The team left Delhi in March to begin their expedition.
The NCC girls’ team reached the top of the world’s highest mountain at 3am on May 18, achieving a historic milestone.
